Yogi Tea is a brand of unique, high-quality herbal and spice infusions existing for more than 40 years, having their creation based on the 3000 years old Indian philosophy: Ayurveda. Ayurveda is the science of balancing body, mind and soul.

In 1960s, yoga and ayurveda were spread from India to the whole world. The brand was started by Yogi Bhajan, a believer of this holistic lifestyle enabling humans to live happy, healthy and mindful lives.

When Yogi arrived in California in 1968, he shared with his students - mainly hippies to get them off drugs - his science and the use of herbs and spices including the unique Ayurvedic blend, based on an original recipe by Yogi Bhajan. At the end of each of his classes, Yogi offered a tea with cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves and black pepper. His students affectionately called it “yogi tea”. This recipe was in fact inspired by the Indian “Tchaï”: a drink with spices, black tea and milk (before the arrival of the British colonists in India, the traditional drink was only a mixture of spices. After the British came, the Indians began to add milk to the drink.)

Professor Yogi's recipe was officially offered in Europe in 1987 under the trademark Yogi Tea. Nowadays, Yogi Tea offers more than 80 plants and spices, selected and cultivated under controlled organic farming, giving a unique aroma to the 44 YOGI TEA infusions while also bringing out their benefits. The range of different Ayurvedic Yogi Teas can suit each person’s specific needs : digestion, purification, peaceful night, for winter, for women, ...

The philosophy of the Yogi Tea brand is to be authentic, respectful and honest. Their products are based on the Indian wisdom of Ayurveda as well as the benefits of selected and organically grown plants and spices. The team is passionate about doing the right things the right way on top of having healthy products. This company makes every effort to ensure that their employees develop and progress in a pleasant working environment.

Originally, in the 1970s, Yogi Tea infusions were only distributed in a trendy chain of restaurants with strictly vegetarian Indian recipes: the Golden Temple (named after the Golden Temple of Amritsar in India). But the success of the infusions was such that customers came only to buy the teas.

Yogi tea in a box

In 1974, the manager of the Golden Temple restaurant in Hamburg, Mrs Tarn Taran Kaur Khlasa, had the idea to cut the spices into small pieces and sell Yogi Tea infusions in boxes. Being health conscious, she decided to make Yogi Tea without theine, thus without black tea. This led to the creation of Yogi Tea in a box.
