Amazonian Indians use Urucum to protect themselves from the sun and mosquitoes by applying it directly to the skin, hence the name "red skin".
Urucum has a high content of alpha and bixin (provitamin A): 3.2% of Urucum (bixin is similar to beta-carotene).
